Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam is the Associate Professor at the Department of Environmental Science in IUBAT since October 10, 2022 and teaching Environmental Science and Sustainability. Prior to this position He was the Associate Professor and Chairman at the Department of Environmental Science in the State University of Bangladesh for 3 years. Dr. Islam started teaching as the Assistant Professor at the Center for Sustainable Development in the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh since March 15, 2010. He was the Director and Coordinator of the Center. He served holding several positions in the development sectors including organic tea garden, NGOs and other private organizations more than 13 years before teaching. He received his BSc and MSc degrees in Forestry from the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences (IFESCU), University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. Dr. Islam completed his PhD in Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies from Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies (IDMVS), University of Dhaka. He contributed UN sustainable Development report in 2016. He did a Postdoc on Social Ecological Resilience to Coastal Disasters from London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), UK with the fellowship of Charles Wallace Bangladesh Trust and British Council. He has contributed in different Projects funded by World Bank, US Agency for International Development, European Union, Department for International Development, World Food Programme. He is pioneer in Bio intensive gardening and Organic Farming. He worked at the largest organic Tea Garden in South Asia. He is the reviewers of several journals. Dr. Islam taught several courses in the master’s program including Atmospheric pollution management, climate change, Environmental Science, Community Development, ecology, water resource management, environmental analysis and interpretation, Natural resource management, Biodiversity and conservation, Research Methodology, Environmental Impact Analysis Organic farming and Seminar on Grassroots Economic Development. He published single author book on Cultivation and drought Management in Agriculture from Switzerland with Springer Nature in 2023, Organic Farming guideline for Green perspectives from Germany. He developed many training modules in English and Bengali. He has published 4 single author books, 13 book chapters, 3 conference proceeding articles and 30 journal publications.
